Communication is Healthcare: In this presentation, the concept of communication AS applied medical ethics will be proposed. Communication theory will be reviewed with a specific emphasis on the ways in which communication impacts healthcare outcomes in a variety of domains. Examples of failed and effective provider-patient and healthcare-team communication will be discussed. Using these cases, the communication-ethics-model will be introduced. Specific techniques and skills will be reviewed to immediately improve healthcare communication for all providers.
